POSITION:  Mail Delivery Driver

 

LOCATION:  Operations Department

 

OPEN TO:  Employees of Carson City School District and external applicants.

 

APPLICATION PERIOD:  Closes June 13, 2018, or until filled.

 

SALARY & BENEFITS:  Grade 19.  Range begins with Step 1 = $13.82 per hour.  8.00 hours per day, 12 months per year with benefits according to the classified negotiated agreement. Employer-paid retirement, health and life insurance, sick leave benefits and personal leave.  A new classified employee may receive up to a maximum of five (5) years of previous outside work experience.  The prior position must be similar in nature and written verification of employment from the previous employer must be submitted to Human Resources upon employment. Per Administrative Regulation No. 311.1.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:  Graduation from high school or the equivalent.  A typical qualifying entrance background is completion of informal training in mail and postal operations or a closely related field, wherein the incumbent has acquired the knowledge and abilities listed above. Bilingual preferred.

 

Must be able to pass the pre-employment drug screen, physical, and lift test.

Job Title:         Mail Delivery Driver                                            

Location:         Material Services                                                  

Department:   Custodial, Warehouse, & Other – Operations  

 

General Job Description:

Under general supervision to pick up, receive and deliver U.S. mail, guard mail, and inter-district mail within the School District.  Posts all outgoing mail, registered and certified letters and delivers to the post office.  Keeps assigned areas in a clean and orderly condition; and to perform related work as required.

 

Experience or training required:

 

Knowledge of:  Current U.S. Mail and UPS policies, regulations, and procedures; operation of postal equipment; basic mathematical skills, numbers, codes, and symbols pertaining to mail services; street maps and local locations and sites; accurate record keeping methods.

 

Ability to:  Operate postage meter machines while keeping abreast of current stamping policies and regulations; maintain accurate and current records; plan, organize and coordinate the work of the district mail office; operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices; maintain good driving record with appropriate safety precautions; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective proactive relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Licenses or Certificates Required:

Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent certificate, a valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence, and an original Social Security Card.  Possession of a valid forklift operator’s certificate preferred.

 

The Job Functions:

Picks up and receives deliveries of mail and money.  Sorts incoming and outgoing mail and delivers incoming and interoffice mail to and from various school district locations.  Posts outgoing mail, registered and certified letters, parcels, and deliver them to the Post Office.  Maintains postage meter and keeps informed on current postal regulations and fees.  Completes reports and records as required.  Posts meeting agendas and delivers packets to Board members.  Perform the duties as Warehouse Delivery Driver when necessary.

 

Essential Job Functions:

Delivers and picks up mail, packages, money, film and test materials from various work sites throughout the district; loads and unloads mail delivery vehicle; obtains signatures to complete documentation for appropriate mailings when necessary; sorts U.S. mail and interoffice mail and operates postal equipment; works rapidly with numbers, codes and symbols, and basic math; operates district vehicle safely and efficiently and hand cart for pick up and delivery needs; fuels mail delivery vehicle; conforms to safety standards as prescribed; recognizes and reports hazards and apply safe work methods; may perform the duties as Warehouse Delivery Driver when necessary; and performs related work as required.

 

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Strength:  Heavy work – lifting, carrying pushing or pulling 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.  Incumbent must be in good physical condition and must take a physical examination at the District’s expense.  May work in conditions of dust, fumes, gas, odors, heat and cold.  May be required to wear a back support.
