LICENSE:  Valid Nevada License, School Administrative Endorsement preferred, TESL preferred

NOTE:  This position begins the 2018-2019 school year.  This a One Year Only position for the 2018-2019 school year only. 

 

Per Article 15.9 of the Comprehensive Agreement between the Carson City School District and the Ormsby County Education Association "Teachers seeking appointment to a special assignment position will not be guaranteed return to their former position should their assignment last more than one school year."

Must possess a Nevada license endorsed for the specific subject(s) and to perform other educational functions at the level and in the field for which he/she is to be employed, issued in accordance with law and in full force at the time the services are rendered. Must be able to pass the pre-employment drug screen test.

Summary:

The intent of the administrative intern program is to provide an opportunity for individuals to receive an exposure to a wide scope of school leadership experiences.  Historically, candidates have been selected due their professional interest toward a possible career shift from the classroom to school leadership.  Candidates have either expressed such interest, or are in educational leadership programs, or have secured their school administration coursework along with the appropriate license.  It is the District’s expectation that those who serve in this capacity follow site and district level administrative mentorship in order to build a strong foundation of school management, but most importantly educational and instructional leadership attributes.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The administrative intern position is designed to provide direct support to students, staff, and community. In this role the administrative intern will work directly with an emphasis in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and accountability. Regarding school management, the intern will be exposed to and or experience areas within facilities, master schedule, student discipline, confidentiality, safety, budget, and all related school site operations. The selected staff member will review student achievement data and assist with the formulation of a plan that will lead students from failing to passing performance levels. Interns are expected to work closely with parents in this process; this includes reporting any student discipline, attendance, and academic performance items.

 

An intern must be able to work closely with classroom teachers in order to enhance learning opportunities for participating students. In addition, the successful candidates must access the school information systems to gather data, develop reports, and provide information to site and district leaders regarding the program. This position provides essential information to all stakeholders to build and grow student or learner-centered initiatives. The intern must foster a commitment to student success by establishing great rapport and relationships.

  • Administer appropriate district curriculum, which is aligned with the Nevada State Standards.

Education/Experience:  

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university.

 

Language Skills:

Mathematical Skills:

Knowledge is required to perform advanced mathematics.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

State of Nevada Teacher's license, current driver's license, original social security card. Certified in relevant subject area; school administrative endorsement preferred.
