POSITION: Work-Based Learning Coordinator
LOCATION: District Wide
OPEN TO: Employees of the Carson City School District and external applicants.

SALARY and BENEFITS: Salary Range $65,096.38 to $91,851.87 annually. 8.00 hours per day, 12 months per year. Employer-paid retirement, health and life insurance, sick leave and annual leave benefits.

General Job Description:
Under administrative direction, develop, implement, expand, and maintain a formal system of work-based learning that promotes School-Community Partnerships. This program should provide a wide variety of career exploration opportunities such as internships, job shadowing opportunities, and in-school exposure to careers and college preparation and training activities with opportunities for development of real-world skills for students. This program must also promote relationships and strengthen ties between businesses, governmental agencies, educational institutions, and the Carson City School District.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Assist the Superintendent in defining needs, developing plans, establishing goals, and formulating policies and procedures for development of a Work-Based Learning program for the
- Assist the Superintendent and Principals in further development and implementation of the current system of career exploration, preparation, and training activities for Carson City School District high school students to include:
- Organize and coordinate career fairs, Freshman Career Exploration Days, business and industry guest speakers, field trip opportunities with business and industry tours, career interest inventories, etc.
- Organize and coordinate, and maintain job shadowing experiences for students, school and student-run enterprises, career pathway workshops, entrepreneurship projects, supervised agricultural experiences, etc.
- Oversee Senior Project work-based job shadowing and mentoring, internships, apprenticeships, clinical experiences, volunteer opportunities, etc.
- Maintain and expand business, industry, and community participation
- Maintain a record of businesses/governmental agencies/industries willing to participate in work-based learning opportunities
- Analyzes data of all Work-Based Learning programs and determines effectiveness to improve program goals
- Represent Carson City School District as the Jump Start College and Dual Enrollment Liaison
- Connect at-risk and under-represented students with work-based learning opportunities
- Ensure the opportunity for all students to learn in a supportive environment
- Provide professional development and learning to partners, teachers, and students
- Develop policies and procedures in Work-Based Learning in accordance with Nevada Revised Statutes 389.167 and ensures compliance will all federal and state guidelines and mandates
- Ensure that all of the Objectives and Strategies of Goal 5 of the Strategic Plan are implemented
- Work professionally with administration, staff, parents, and community members
- Participate in other job-related duties and activities related to the position as assigned.
- Instruct students by lecturing, demonstrating, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations
- Keep attendance records
- Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops
- Meet as needed with Nevada System of Higher Education staff as necessary
- Introduce career exploration at the elementary school level (10% to start)
- Help select, supervise, and evaluate the performance of additional staff (if any)
- Disseminate information on Work-Based Learning programs to employers, parents, teachers, students, and counselors
- Assist with career development of students through career clusters, extended learning opportunities and employability skills
- Attend various meetings including quarterly, Community PLC meetings and actively participate in the committee associated with Goal 5 – The Community in Full Partnership
- Monitor progress of projects, ensures that deadlines are met, review finished tasks and makes necessary modifications
- Counsel and advise students on a variety of academic and administrative matters, assesses student needs, suggests alternative courses of action and settles grievances as necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned
A combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates and ability to perform the duties of the position: A combination of education and experience in a relevant field, and a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
Licenses or Certificates Required: Possession of a valid drivers license issued by the state of residence. Original Social security Card. University Diploma, evidence of high school graduation or equivalent as is applicable. Professional registration(s) in related fields is (are) desirable.
Essential Job Functions:
- Plans, organizes and all work-based learning initiatives.
- Coordinates the activities of the Departments with site administrators, department supervisors and staff.
- Develops, recommends and interprets policies, regulations, standards, procedures and short/long term goals of the Departments managed.
- Works in cooperation with administrators and other appropriate staff in the budget planning and workload.
- Confers with present and prospective contracted service providers.
- May serve as a representative of the School District on various committees and boards in the State and local community.
- Prepares comprehensive verbal and written reports.
- Shall collaborate with District staff on work-based learning efforts.

Other Skills and Abilities Ability and familiarity in working with other school districts, city, state, and federal agencies.
Other Qualifications Knowledge of the organizational structure of Nevada school districts and applicable sections of the Nevada revised and federal statutes.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Strength: Occasional heavy work- Lifting, carrying pushing or pulling up to 100 pounds with frequent lifting and or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. May be required to work in conditions of extreme heat, cold, fumes odors and dust.
