POSITION: Regional Trainer, K-12 Computer Science

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under general direction of the Director of the Northwest Regional Professional Development Program, plans, develops, coordinates, implements and is responsible for various functions relating to K-12 computer science programs, including staff and curriculum development, in the six counties included in the Northwest Regional Development Program (NWRPDP). Coordinates and works cooperatively with other facilitators and program coordinators. Performs related work as assigned by the director.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Based upon research and best practices, plans, organizes, facilitates, monitors, and evaluates K-12 computer science education professional development programs for the six districts in the Northwest Regional Professional Development Region: Carson City (CCSD), Churchill (CCSD), Douglas (DCSD), Lyon (LCSD), Storey (SCSD), and Washoe County School Districts (WCSD). Communicates in-depth knowledge of district and Nevada State Content Standards in computer science; demonstrates expertise in developing and delivering standards-based lessons including integrated instruction and culturally relevant pedagogy; demonstrates knowledge of data and assessment, differentiated instruction, and academic interventions; reviews professional journals and publications in computer science education as well as Nevada Department of Education information for dissemination to instructional personnel; organizes, facilitates, and monitors special workshops for staff in the six districts; provides coaching and resource support for classroom teachers in the area of computer science, including Advanced Placement computer science courses; serves as a resource to classroom teachers, aides, assistants, and principals in the development and integration of best practices in K-12 computer science education; develops plans to evaluate the effectiveness of professional development programs and instructional tools and materials; develops budgets for NWRPDP computer science programs; attends conferences and training related to computer science education and instruction; provides support to local professional organizations and activities they sponsor which support and enhance the instructional program.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or related field,
AND
Experience: Five (5) years of professional teaching experience in computer science instruction or a related field. Evidence of leadership and involvement in the improvement of computer science instruction and knowledge of the basic techniques of organizing programs, activities and work schedules.
AND
- Qualification into the Teacher Leadership Pool is required for Washoe applicants or to be completed within the first year of employment.
Knowledge of: The needs and concerns of students, teachers, parents and other school personnel in the areas of K-12 computer science education; current research in computer science education, and its implication for K-12 classroom instruction; district or state standards or curricula as they pertain to computer science or interrelate with appropriate subject areas, including philosophy, methods, resources, and publications; effective teaching practices K-12; principles of effective management, staff supervision and administration; learning styles; principles of effective management, staff supervision and administration; collaborative decision-making.
Skill at: Preparing and delivering presentations and instruction to adult audiences; Interacting and developing positive relations with staff, teachers, administrators, parents and community members as appropriate; communicating effectively both orally and in writing; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including those at site, district, and state levels; working with people, including staff supervision and administration; collaborative decision-making; conducting in-services and workshops.
Licenses/Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Nevada driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the District; a valid Nevada teaching certificate.
Other: This position is grant-funded and consists of a 195-day, limited-term contract. The person selected must be able/willing to travel within the six counties within the Northwest RPDP Region. Overnight travel required on a limited basis.
Physical Demands: The work is mainly sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of items, such as papers, books, kits, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Work Environment: The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, residences, or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

Teacher's Salary Schedule Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year.

This is a Limited Term position ending July 2019. This position is grant-funded through the Northwest Regional Professional Development grant and is contingent upon continued funding. The hiring administrator may retain incumbent for the duration of the grant without re-advertising. At the conclusion of this position, the incumbent will be eligible to participate in the exclusive transfer process and overage process in accordance with the certified negotiated agreement. This position will serve six school districts. The Washoe County School District pays an additional legislatively-designated amount to the Public Employees Retirement System on behalf of the employee for retirement benefits. No retirement contribution is made by the employee. New employees will have $55.00 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Please be advised there is a 90-day waiting period for insurance benefits. Benefits are paid by employees at a prorated percent for those working less than full time.
