General Job Description:

Under the supervision of the High School Principal at Carson High School, the Career and Technical Education Vice Principal (CTE VP) position is responsible for supervising, promoting, and monitoring the CTE program for the Carson City School District. This includes the process of overseeing the curriculum, assessment, testing, data management, and instructional components of the program. The successful candidate must work closely with the Nevada Department of Education and the Nevada System of Higher Education to manage and maintain the certificate and credit bearing portions of the CTE program.  This position also includes CTE grant related responsibilities. Under the guidance and direction of the Transformation Office Director and the Grants and Special Projects Director the CTE VP is responsible for supporting in the development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting requirements that are associated with Career and Technical Education grants. In addition, the CTE VP is responsible to support the development of community partnerships and technical skills committees as they pertain to the Carson City School District CTE program

 

Education and/or Experience:                                                

  • A minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of school administrative experience required.
  • Knowledge and experience with CTE programs at the District, State, and Federal levels.
  • Experience with the supervision of licensed and classified staff.
  • Knowledge of District, departmental, and campus policies and procedures.
  • Ability to design and deliver research based high quality professional development.
  • Ability to conduct research and gather data about program effectiveness.
  • Good reading, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and good presentation skills.
  • Ability to utilize data base  management systems  and  software  systems  as part  of work  in  completion  of assignments (g., Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook).

 

Ability to:

The CTE VP must effectively manage and facilitate the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program for the Carson City School District.  This includes both program and personnel supervision. In addition the candidate must be an effective grant developer. Finally this candidate must be able to serve as an effective site level administrator supervising CTE related programs as well as perform other supervisory duties as assigned.

 

Licenses or Certificates Required:

Possession of a valid Nevada Administrative and Teaching License, TESL endorsement preferred, a valid drivers’ license issued by the state of residence, and an original Social Security Card.  When applying for a certificated licensed position a candidate must meet the position requirements as listed on the appropriate position vacancy announcement. 

 

 

The Job Functions:

The CTE VP will work closely with district and state staff to manage, monitor and maintain the CTE program for the Carson City School District. This includes the work related to curriculum, assessment, testing, data management, reporting, and instruction. The CTE VP will supervise classroom teachers, students, technical skills committees, and student organizations as well. This position is also responsible to work closely with district and state leadership to develop, write, and manage grants that are associated Carson City School Districts CTE program. Finally, the CTE VP will support leadership in supervision of school related functions and will complete other additional duties as assigned.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Career and Technical Education:

  • Have the capacity to manage the curriculum, assessment, testing, data management, and reporting required within the CTE program.
  • Support teachers to effectively work within Carson City School District’s Learner Centered (Competency) Model. This includes use of data and reporting systems specific to the classroom.
  • Develop, write, and manage grants associated with the Career and Technical Education Program.
  • Oversee and supervise classroom teachers in the Career and Technical Education areas.
  • Supervise and manage work of Technical Skills Committees and required student organizations associated with each program.
  • Build an ongoing dialogue and support system for CTE associated work that is in alignment with Nevada Department of Education (NDE) and the Nevada Systems of Higher Education. This includes certification programs as well as state and federal CTE program compliance.
  • Manage and monitor academic progress for all staff and students within the CTE program.

 

Coaching and Adult Staff Development:

  • Demonstrate the ability to implement staff development, build, and deliver high quality staff development initiatives from start to finish.
  • Ability to utilize the  four  cognitive  coaching  stances  (coaching,  collaboration,  consultation,  and evaluation) to support adult changes in practice.
  • Effectively apply state standards for staff development as a guide to develop, implement, and evaluate staff development initiatives.
  • Must be able to follow district directives in implementing this initiative including working with administrators, department chairs, teachers, and paraprofessionals.

 

Content Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of CTE state assessments. Must be able to navigate website, download data, and provide instruction to others on gathering data and using data to provide instructional interventions.
  • Knowledge of state End of Course (EOC) exams and data associated with those exam Must be able to support teachers across content areas to utilize this data to support student learning in each classroom.
  • Expertise in Standards Based Unit Design and Assessment. Must be able to support unit design and development. This includes establishing learning targets, SMART goals, and assessment development.
  • Understand and facilitate PLC wor Must be able to observe, gather data, and coach individuals and teacher teams on PLC processes. Must be familiar with the PLC protocols.
  • Knowledge of the co-teaching model to provide services to ESL and special education student The Carson City School District utilizes this model to provide services and the CTE VP must understand these practices and be able to support teacher teams as they do this collaborative classroom work.
  • A deep understanding of best practices designed to meet the needs of special populations including IEP and LEP subgroups.
  • Knowledge of high quality instructional practi The candidate must be able to observe classrooms, gather data, and effectively coach around the attributes of effective instruction.
  • The candidate must be highly skilled in the area of differentiated instruction and the Instructional Consultation (IC) model.

 

Systemic School Improvement Initiatives:

  • Must have experience building and implementing school and program improvement plan. Must be able to share systemic data with staff members and provide support to teacher teams in enhancing the initiative based on data.
  • Must be able to contact and coordinate with appropriate district personnel and acquire resources necessary to support program initiative.
  • Must be able to support numerous groups at the school level as they address staff development at the school level.
  • Must be able to gather and report data following scientific protocol established by district office researchers.

 

Professional Integrity:

  • The CTE VP must be able to support the change process and follow district directives when implementing the RTT-D plan.
  • The students of the school must come first. The stance of the CTE VP must be founded in student performance and supporting the change in adult behaviors which ultimately lead to students improving their academic performance in all areas.

 

General Information:

  • The CTE VP is expected to work a 201-day contract. The candidate will be selected by the CHS principal and district office pers The position will be supervised by the CHS principal with input from the Transformation Office Director and/or the Associate Superintendent of Educational Services.
  • Finally the CTE VP must demonstrate the ability to improvise and make adjustments in order to meet the staff development needs of site staff members.
